Personal Commentary
Beowulf was amazing for it's time period, and really showed me that not all Old English Anglo-Saxon tales are vague and involve in-depth analysis, only to find that the whole piece of literature tells you to follow your dream. It was truly exciting to read the tale of hardship Beowulf faced when fighting Grendel and Grendel's mother. I was on my toes as I read his battles, not knowing if two lines down Beowulf would meet his end, or rise up in glory. This suspense made reading this tale much more enjoyable than most during this time period.
Beowulf also retaught me some values that I would've otherwise forgotten. It taught me to sprint towards your goal, not walk towards it, only to have someone else steal the spotlight. During the many sections where Beowulf saw his chance at glory, he didn't wait to see if it was safe. He jumped towards it, even if it was one of the greatest threats he's faced. If Beowulf waited too long pondering the challenges put in front of him it might have already been too late. These specific values are clearly shown throughout the tale.
